Last week, while moving my son into college, the chaplain described Grove City College as a place “to love to learn and learn to love.” That line really grabbed me because that is the kind of place I want First Pres to be.
I want us to be a place where people who love to learn feel welcome, and I think we are such a place. From our current Plotline sermon series, walking through the grand narrative of our redemption, to an assortment of classes, studies and small groups, we offer lots of opportunities for people of all ages and stages to know and grow in Jesus, His Word and the life He calls us to. And I’m particularly excited that we are offering Alpha this year as it creates a space for people both inside and outside the Church to wrestle with the big questions of life.
But the point of all this is not just to know more. Rather the point is to learn to love: to love God and love neighbor. The Apostle Paul puts it well in 1 Corinthians 13:2 “if…I can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge…but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
So friends, let’s “love to learn and learn to love” together.
