New Here?

Let’s connect and get to know each other.

You are welcome here!

We are glad you are checking us out! We’re guessing you probably want to know a little bit about what to expect when you visit on a Sunday. While you probably won’t find the answers to all your questions here, we hope you’ll get a taste of what we’re about. The best way to find out more is to visit us on Sunday and see for yourself.

LOVE. PROCLAIM. SERVE. GROW.

Tell me more about First Presbyterian.

We are a historic, Presbyterian, evangelical church in the heart of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Founded in 1789, we have a long history of serving our neighbors in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

When you visit us, you’ll encounter a welcoming group of people who care for each other, our community and our world. We love Jesus, and we love because he first loved us. We’re not perfect, but we are seeking more and more to be like the Savior we trust.

What’s a typical Sunday like?

9am – Contemporary Praise & Worship

At this service you can expect modern songs with drums, guitars and other instruments. People will be wearing everything from jeans to suits, tucked and untucked. You’ll find people of all ages and walks of life.

10:15am – Between the Services – Discipleship & Connection

Come meet some folks in one of our many Sunday school and discipleship classes. These classes are an opportunity to connect with others who are learning and growing in their faith. Sunday school classes are also available for children and youth.

11:15am – Traditional Worship

At this service, you can expect classic hymns. You’ll find individuals, couples, families and seniors gathered to worship.

When and where do you meet?

We are located in historic downtown Harrisonburg, on the northwest corner of Court Square (see the map below for our location and parking locations).

What should I wear?

We’re flexible. Some come in jeans, others in suits and ties. It really doesn’t matter to us. We’re simply glad to have you join us.

What about my kids?

We love having children in worship with us. We also have an opportunity called Children’s Church that starts right after the children’s message during the 9 a.m. worship service (about halfway through the service). During that time, parents can take their children (age 3 to second grade) to a classroom where teachers will lead them through a Bible lesson while parents are listening to the sermon in the sanctuary. Parents can pick up their children after the service ends.

We offer a nursery (up to age 3) during the 9 a.m. worship service and Sunday school.

I’m in college, and I need a ride. What should I do?

We have a team of people here at First Pres that are able to give rides to college students. If you need a ride to or from church contact Pastor Billy Craig and he will arrange a ride.

How else can I get involved?

A great first step is to text the word welcome to (540) 712-6440. We’ll then send you some information to get started. You also can sign up for our weekly e-news, which is a good way to get an idea of what we are about.
