3 ways you can help welcome JMU students back to Harrisonburg
Written by Pastor Billy Craig

Students from James Madison University are returning to Harrisonburg, and we’re ready to welcome them. First Pres has two upcoming opportunities to do just that.

JMU Freshman Move-in

On Saturday, Aug. 21, we will partner with campus ministries CRU and RUF to help freshmen move into the dorms. This is a great opportunity to meet students and welcome them to the ‘burg and show that First Presbyterian Church is here and loves them. Volunteers from First Pres will meet at the church at 8 a.m. to receive a First Presbyterian Church shirt to wear. The group will meet up with our partners and then help move students in. There will be a break for pizza and water around noon. The plan is to be back at the church by 2:15 p.m.

Back to the Burg

We will partner with CRU and welcome 5,000 JMU Freshman students downtown from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28 during the annual Back to the Burg event downtown. We will set up our gaga ball pit and give out snow cones, popcorn, frisbees and waters while creating a welcoming environment to introduce students to the area.

Weekly College Brunch

For 13 Sundays this fall, we will host a brunch for students between our worship services at 10:15 a.m. You can help by providing food. Each Sunday, we need two volunteers to provide food. More details and sign up here.
