I was recently in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho where I’d joined my brothers for their mule deer hunt. Being in the mountains and being disconnected from the news – family, church, community and the world alike, as we had no cell service – put things in perspective.
I’m realizing many of my concerns and issues are neither as significant nor as urgent as they feel in the moment. Most days I feel a need to know, but five days of not knowing what was going on revealed how little is impacted by either my knowledge or ignorance. God has it all – and me! – well in hand, and that helps me have perspective.
Yet I realize many of us neither can nor want to disconnect in the mountains for five days. So are there other ways to gain a fresh and both a more hopeful and realistic perspective? I think so! We can do simple things like taking a walk, talking to a friend, sleeping on a decision (or social media reaction). Of course, we can also read the Bible. The Bible gives us God’s perspective on life and reveals both that He has things well in hand, working it all for our good, and that he loves us.
Doesn’t that put things in perspective?
