The purpose of the Christian life: Be with Jesus
Written by Pastor Jon Heeringa

I’ve been thinking about the end, or purpose, of the Christian life and think it can be summed up as being with Jesus, knowing Jesus and doing what Jesus does. Over the next few weeks, I want to look at each of these starting with being with Jesus.

Jesus died to save us so we we can be with Him. He is even called Immanuel—God with us. In Revelation, heaven comes to earth, and the dwelling place of God is with us. It’s clear God wants to be with us and made us to be with Him.

But do you want to be with God? If so there are lots of ways if we are intentional. For example, we can be with God in his creation because He is reflected in all He has made. We can be with God in Scripture. It is why he gave us His holy Word. We can be with God in community. Jesus says where two or three gather in His name He is there. And we can be with God in prayer, simply listening and talking to him. There are more ways because again God wants to be with us but these are primary.

God made us to be in relationship with Him, so let’s live into our purpose and be with Him.
