Alpha is a series of group conversations to explore the basics of the Christian faith. Everyone’s welcome. You’re invited no matter what your background or beliefs. We’ll meet for a complimentary dinner and conversations Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m., starting Sept. 11 and running through Nov. 20.
Sunday mornings at First Pres are centered on worship and also include time between the services for growing and connecting. Our regular schedule, with links to current information, is below. 9 a.m. – Contemporary Praise & Worship (Sanctuary) At this service you can expect modern songs with drums, guitars and other instruments. People will be wearing everything from jeans to suits, tucked and untucked. You’ll find people of all ages and walks of life. 10:15 a.m. – Between the Services – Discipleship & Sunday School Come meet some people in one of our discipleship groups. These groups are an opportunity to connect with others who are learning and growing in their faith. There are groups for all ages. 11:15 a.m. – Traditional Worship (Sanctuary) At this service, you can expect a pipe organ, classic hymns and historical texts. You’ll find individuals, couples, families and seniors gathered to worship. 11:15 a.m. – Contemporary Worship (Showker Hall) At this service you can expect modern songs with drums, guitars and other instruments. People will be wearing everything from jeans to suits, tucked and untucked. You’ll find people of all ages and walks of life.
We gather for worship, food and fellowship. We'll also hear a message to help us help us apply the Bible to real life.
Ladies, join us this fall as we dive deep into the book of Colossians. We will be studying the supremacy of Christ, the truth of the gospel and our moment by moment response as believers. Meredith Read, who served on the teaching team of our local Bible Study Fellowship for the past five years and who is the director of women’s ministry at her church, Faith Community Church, will teach. Those interested in childcare should contact Director of Children and Family Ministries Vanessa Manson ([email protected]) no later than the Sunday prior to that week's meeting.
Children will enjoy active play, make music with Orff instruments and explore the Bible. The program will run on Tuesday afternoons from 4 p.m. to 5:55 p.m. The Orff method involves teaching music through singing and the use of xylophones, glockenspiels, metallophones and rhythm instruments. Children will learn to play and sing while enjoying learning about music and praising the Lord. We plan to have two sections, one for kindergarten to second graders, and another for third to fifth graders. There is no cost to attend. All leaders have passed background checks and completed child-protection training. Register here.
Middle- and high-school students gather for friendship and for a Bible study. Join us for some breakfast and time together at Chick-fil-A. Inclement weather policy: If Rockingham County schools are closed or on a delay, small group will not be held.

Travel to Roanoke with us for King & Country's Unsung Hero Tour at the Berglund Center. We plan to leave around 4 p.m., eat dinner at Chick-fil-A in Roanoke and then attend the concert from 7-10 p.m. We plan on returning to Harrisonburg around midnight. Both Rockingham and Harrisonburg public schools are closed on Friday, October 25. Cost for groups of 8 or more is $25. We will place our first group order on Monday, September 23.
