I’ve been meditating on Ecclesiastes 3:1-12 this week. This is the passage that reminds us that there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the sun.

I think what has drawn me to this text is that time feels very muddled right now. For example, with things like dropping off my son for college, it is a time both bitter and sweet. I miss him and I am excited for him, so what kind of time is this? Should I mourn or dance?

How do we navigate time and discern what to do in whatever time we are in?  I think there is a two-part answer to these questions evidenced in verses 11-12 of the text. First, we realize that while God has set eternity in our hearts, God himself is eternal. God transcends time and is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Thus, we navigate time and what to do in it by looking to Him. This naturally leads to the second thing which is we rest in the fact that God will make everything beautiful in its time.

So friends, whatever time you are in, look to God and rest in the truth of His word that He is making every time beautiful.
