The Great Commission calls on us to “make disciples,” and I’ve been thinking about how to do that. In pondering this I’ve asked, Who made me a disciple and how did they do it?

For me the answer to the first part of the question is many people. The same is probably true for you because discipleship is a community project. And the Church is uniquely equipped to make disciples. My family and various individuals were huge in discipling me, but they were all equipped and supported by the Church.

As to how the Church made me a disciple, I can point to a number of things. But what I want to lift up right now is that the Church taught me the discipline of corporate worship. Corporate worship is vital to discipleship because it is where we encounter those who discipline us and where we learn the other disciplines that grow our faith.

Thus, one of the most important things we can do to make disciples (and you are not a disciple if you are not making disciples) is get people to corporate worship. So, I hope I see you and those you are discipling in worship this Sunday.
