In John 5:6 Jesus asks a question I think we all need to wrestle with: “Do you want to get well?” Many of us are tempted to dismiss the question because we don’t think of ourselves as sick. Yet for Christians a proper understanding of “well” must include growing in our love for God and our neighbor. It must include fulfilling the Great Commission. It includes continual growth in the fruit of the Spirit, and so each of us needs to wrestle with Jesus’ question: “Do you want to get well?”
The obvious answer should be “yes,” yet if we are honest we are not so sure. Saying “yes” will mean we need to do the things Jesus tells us to do, and those things will disrupt and change the relatively comfortable lives we now live. Yet it is worth it. The life Jesus offers is real, abundant, eternal life.
If you are going to say yes to “getting well,” we can help. We can help through worship, discipleship opportunities and service opportunities. Come talk to me or one of the other pastors or elders and we will work with you in saying “yes” to “getting well.”
