Often with the new year we look toward some kind of fresh start but the good news for us as Christians is we don’t have to wait for a new year. Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us that God’s mercies are new every morning, so we can start again today – even if you have already broken your New Year’s resolution. And the truth is, the reminder that we can start again because of his new and utterly faithful mercies should motivate us to do so.
So, when it comes to your faith and his great faithfulness, where do you want to start over or in what area do you want to focus on growing? Each year I try to pick one Fruit of the Spirit to focus on, and this year I want to double down on joy (it was one of mine last year) and add goodness, which is also translated “generosity.” But how about you?
Another way to think through a fresh start is to renew or pick up a spiritual discipline that can conform you to Christ and help you grow closer to him. Committing to regular worship, community, Bible reading and prayer are all ways to do it.
His mercies are new. Every morning!
