Thank you from Pastor Scott
Written by Pastor Scott Thayer

I am deeply grateful to the Session for sending me on a sabbatical January 1 – March 31, 2023! I have been, and continue to be, called to serve First Pres. as a Pastor, and to give of myself fully to the Lord and to the ministry and mission of this congregation. I am also extremely thankful to each and every one of you for your prayers and concern for Karen and me! Your intercessions are upholding us, and reminding us of the Lord’s presence and grace. Additionally, I am greatly touched by the financial gifts you have generously given, so that I will have the resources needed for expenses during my sabbatical! Thank you so much!

While I (and Karen) will miss you all very much, I know that God wants me to take time away for rest and restoration. The demands of ministry do take a toll. The timing of my sabbatical could not have come at a better time, with Karen’s cancer journey, the death of my dad and mom, and then the death of our son, Josh. When I am away, I look forward to resting and spending time with family; to doing grief work; and attending to my soul care and spiritual growth. I have worked with the Session, Committees Chairs, and Staff to assure that ministry continues while I am away. I really appreciate the gifted leaders who will be serving in my areas of focus.

Thank you again for sending me on this extended sabbath!

May Jesus richly bless you and me as we seek Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength,

Scott
