Welcoming our new director of children’s and family ministries
Written by Brad Jenkins

We are thrilled to announce that Vanessa Manson will be joining First Pres as Director of Children’s and Family Ministries at the end of January.

Vanessa, her husband John and three of their four children, ages 16 to 26, joined First Pres earlier this year (their oldest child lives in Richmond). With a bachelor’s in mass communication and a master’s of education, she joins the ministry staff after teaching in several local Christian schools. She has taught young people from preschool to high school, along with building a library and technology program. Her most favorite teaching experiences, she says, were the 12 years she homeschooled her own children.

Since joining First Pres earlier this year, Vanessa has been teaching Sunday School and serving on the Children’s Ministry Team.

“I have been inspired by all of the team members and their desire to share our faithful and loving Savior with the children of the church and the community,” she says. “I am also thankful for all of our volunteers and excited about coming alongside them to encourage them and equip them for ministry.”

She added a special thank you to the pastors and the members of the search committee, saying, “Their support and prayers have been essential in discerning the Lord’s calling.”

Vanessa says she finds joy watching children become involved in the life of the church and thrive as disciples of Jesus.

In addition to time with family and working with children, Vanessa enjoys seeking Christ in His Word, participating in First Pres small groups and reading good fiction and theology. Recent favorite reads include “Delighting In the Trinity” by Michael Reeves and “Prayer in the Night” by Tish Harrison Warren.

“I am delighted to be able to devote my time and energy to this work, because Jesus is worthy of all glory and honor,” she says.

Vanessa’s first day will be Jan. 23. In the meantime, when you see her, offer her your best and pray for her as she prepares for her new role.
