Exciting changes are coming with the re-opening of our Soup Kitchen. We will be back inside Showker Hall and tentatively will begin in September.
Tuesday Soup Kitchen has been served during the COVID pandemic by preparing 25 bagged-lunch meals and meeting guests outside Showker Hall under the canopy. After that, the team has been driving downtown (thanks to faithful driver Bob Sease) to serve the remaining meals. “The Lord provides the guests, as we always seem to have the correct number of meals needed,” says Pat Haden, one of the soup kitchen coordinators.
As we prepare to begin indoor Soup Kitchen again, we have discovered the need for a lunch-time meal on Fridays. When we reopen, then, we will switch from our Tuesday service to Friday lunches at 11:30 a.m.
The coordinating team hopes to have eight teams trained to serve six times per year. We hope to have 8 teams with each team serving six times per year. Team size would vary, it could be 3 people or a group of 6 or more. Teams will shop, prepare, serve and clean up the same week of each month in alternating months. The meals will be kept simple, serving soup, sandwich, chips, dessert and fruit.
Coordinators Mary Scott and Pat Haden plan to be available between services at a table in the hallway to answer questions and establish a schedule for those who would like to feed our neighbors. We’d love to have our small groups and other ministry teams sign up for this opportunity.
