The start of a new year always tugs our thinking both backwards and forwards. We reflect on 2020 with its hardships and blessings, and we look forward to 2021 hoping for an easier year and perhaps setting some goals. This is both natural and healthy, but what I’m thinking about and want you to think about is right now.
God himself identifies as the Great I Am, not the great I was or the great I will be. God is about right now. He is working right now and calls us to join him right now. You get a bit of this in John 4:35-36, where Jesus tells his disciples it isn’t four months to the harvest. The fields are ripe for harvest now. “Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life.” Similarly, in 2 Corinthians 6:2 we are told, “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”
We are seeing this. We are seeing people searching for what God alone can provide. We are seeing people come to the Lord right now and we can partner with the Lord right now in his saving work. So what are you doing now? What can you do now?
Whatever it is, let’s get after it. The harvest is rich right now.
