2 ways you can serve college students during the fall startup
Written by Communications Team

Students from our area colleges and universities are heading back in town, and we are ready to welcome them to the community and serve them this academic year. Here are two ways you can do help now.

Block Party in the Burg

More than 4,000 JMU freshmen will be coming to our downtown neighborhood Saturday, Aug. 27 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. for the annual Block Party in the Burg, which introduces students to all downtown has to offer. That includes churches like First Pres. Our gaga ball pit and nine square will be setup in the Courtyard grass, where we will have live music. We will also have snow cones, frisbees and water. Join us at 2 p.m. as we setup for the event.

College Brunch

Starting Sunday, Aug. 28, we will provide food and spiritual conversations in between our worship services at 10:15 a.m. We need First Pres folks to sign up to bring brunch. There are 12 Sundays available. The church will provide the ice, plates, water, etc. Last year, we averaged at least 20 students each Sunday, so each Sunday is divided into two to allow two individuals or small groups to divide the food. This is a growing ministry and so while some graduated, others are coming back, new ones are constantly coming and new freshman are arriving later this week. We are praying that God will provide us with at least 40 students this Fall.
