3 Phrases We Should Use More Often
Written by Pastor Jon Heeringa

First, “I don’t know.”  Truthfully, I hate having to say “I don’t know” but the truth is I don’t know.  I don’t know all of what God is doing in this moment in our history or exactly how we should respond.  Yet when I admit I don’t know I put myself in a position to listen and learn.

Second, “I could be wrong.”  While we don’t always know what to do, we often have to act anyway, but when we do so we should be clear with both ourselves and others that we could be wrong, precisely because we don’t know.

This leads naturally to the third phrase, which is, “Lord have mercy.”  Given that we don’t know and thus could be wrong, the odds are that we will sometimes get it wrong and thus, we will need God’s mercy.  Mercy is something we are called to love for both ourselves and one another.  Put this all together and I think we have a picture of what it means to walk humbly with God. Now let’s do it.
